Klasse (Iron Cross 2nd Class) for his heroic service on December 19, 1940, while serving with Artillerie-Regiment 229 of the 197. Infanterie-Division. Signed by Generalleutnant Hermann Meyer-Rabingen (Knight’s Cross). He also earned the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse while serving as a Forstmeister in the Reichforstschutz (Forestry Protection Service).
He wrote a small letter, stating that he earned the EK2 for breaking through the Maginot line and the KVK2 for “constant life-danger while clearing (likely vs. partisans) the ..woods of Minsk (?).” Comes also with 3 documents related to his promotion to Leutnant.
