Bataillon/ Grenadier-Regiment “Grossdeutschland” and the Eichenlaub on November 12, 1943 as Major und Kommandeur of I. Bataillon/ Grenadier-Regiment “Grossdeutschland”. He played a major role in stopping the 20 July plot in 1944 against Adolf Hitler.
