Albert Witte – Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 394 (Operation “Nordwind”)

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Albert Witte. Oberwachtmeister Albert Witte (05.12.1916 † 11.02.2009) earned the Ritterkreuz on March 11, 1945 as Oberwachtmeister und Zugführer in the 1. Kompanie/ Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 394.

Awarded the Knight’s Cross for actions during the German operation Nordwind. During the heavy fighting for Sessenheim the paratroopers which his platoon was attached to found themselves pinned down by heavy fire outside the town. By his initiative he took a risk and led his assault guns forward to engage the defending AT guns and tanks at close range, where they succeeded in destroying several. With this accomplished the German paratroopers were able to subsequently break through.

Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
