“Korvettenkapitän Maurer has been the commander of a Räumbootsflottille since May 1942. He and his flotilla were deployed in the English Channel at the time, where the close proximity of the enemy brought great demands on the German ships and crews. In addition to the successful escort of convoys containing important ships, as well as minelaying and minesweeping operations, a particularly noteworthy achievement of the Flottille is the sinking of 3 enemy MTBs. A further 8 MTBs were damaged by the Flottille.”
