Siegfried Koitschka – Kommandant of “U-616”

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Siegfried Koitschka. Oberleutnant zur See Siegfried Koitschka (06.08.1917 † 17.05.2002) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on January 27, 1944 as Oberleutnant zur See und Kommandant of Uboot “U-616”.

Awarded for his distinguished wartime career (which included six patrols as Second Watch Officer to U-Boat ace Erich Topp), the sinking of two Allied warships in the Mediterranean as well as several other unconfirmed claims in the same theater of operations.

Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
