Franz Schlund – Lehrgeschwader 1 (First Bordfunker to be awarded the RK, flew with Joachim Helbig)

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Franz Schlund. Oberfeldwebel Franz Schlund (10.08.1913 in Leimen † 15.09.1995 in Leimen) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on August 30, 1941 as Oberfeldwebel und Bordfunker in the 4. Staffel/ Lehrgeschwader 1.

Awarded after flying about 220 sorties with future Swords holder Joachim Helbig, towards whose success he played a major part. He was the first radio operator in the Luftwaffe to be so decorated.

Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
