Historical Description

The RADwJ Erinnerungsbrosche was a commemorative brooch associated with the Reichsarbeitsdienst der weiblichen Jugend (RADwJ), the female branch of the German Reich Labour Service during the Third Reich period.

Unlike the more commonly encountered standard membership badges, these decorative remembrance brooches were intended as commemorative or honorary pieces connected to service within the RADwJ organization. Female members of the RADwJ were involved in agricultural labor, welfare work, domestic support, and later wartime auxiliary duties supporting the German war effort.

This example features the classic RADwJ symbolism with stylized wheat motifs and central swastika design within an ornate oval brooch form. The reverse bears the characteristic Assmann “A” logo, identifying production by Assmann & Söhne, one of the most respected wartime German insignia manufacturers.

Manufactured in zinc, the brooch has developed an attractive dark wartime patina typical of late-war production pieces. Original RADwJ Erinnerungsbroschen are significantly scarcer than standard RADwJ membership insignia and remain highly sought after among collectors of female wartime organizations and political insignia.
