Historical Description

This original commemorative porcelain plate was produced for members of the 79. Infanterie-Division during the wartime Christmas period of 1940. The plate bears the inscription:

“Kriegs-Weihnachten 1940 – 79. Infanterie-Division – Tapfer und Treu”
(“War Christmas 1940 – 79th Infantry Division – Brave and Loyal”)

The 79. Infanterie-Division participated in several major early-war campaigns and served extensively on the Eastern Front. Personalized and unit-related Christmas gifts such as this plate were intended to strengthen morale and camaraderie among soldiers during wartime service far from home.

The center features the Iron Cross 1939 motif with swastika and the divisional motto “Tapfer und Treu”. The reverse carries the maker mark of the renowned German ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch, Mettlach, one of the most respected porcelain producers of the period.

Original division-specific wartime presentation plates are highly collectible and considerably scarcer than standard Third Reich decorative ceramics.
