Historical Description
The NSDAP Dienstauszeichnung was introduced by Adolf Hitler on 2 April 1939 to reward long and loyal membership within the NSDAP. The awards recognized individuals who had contributed years of service to the party organization and its development before and after the rise to power.
The bronze grade represented 10 years of service, while silver and gold grades recognized longer periods. Time served before the Machtergreifung (1933 seizure of power) was especially valued, meaning many recipients were considered “Alte Kämpfer” (Old Fighters) or early supporters of the movement.
Unlike military decorations, these awards were political service decorations and were worn during official party functions, rallies, and ceremonies. Complete cased examples such as this remain popular among collectors due to their historical significance and attractive presentation.
