Historical Description
Heinz Osieka entered Wehrmacht service through Panzer-Ersatz-Abteilung 15 in Sagan, one of the German Army’s major armored replacement and training formations responsible for preparing tank personnel for frontline service.
The Soldbuch documents transfers through:
- Panzer-Ersatz-Abteilung 15
- Stabskompanie II./Panzer-Regiment 24
- Stabskompanie I./Panzer-Regiment 24
Panzer-Regiment 24 & Panther Tanks
A particularly desirable aspect of this Soldbuch is the connection to I./Panzer-Regiment 24, which was equipped with the famous Panzerkampfwagen V Panther tank.
The Panther was one of Germany’s most formidable armored fighting vehicles of the war, combining strong frontal armor with the highly effective 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun. Panther-equipped units are especially sought after by collectors due to their prominent role in major late-war battles.
I./ Panzer-Regiment 24 saw combat service in Normandy following the Allied invasion in 1944 and later continued fighting during the desperate defensive battles on the Western and Eastern Fronts. Panther units in Normandy were heavily engaged against Allied armored forces under extremely difficult combat conditions, suffering heavy losses while attempting to slow the Allied breakout from the beachhead.
Particularly interesting is the award of the KVK2 mit Schwertern on 1 September 1944, shortly after the brutal Normandy campaign. Awards with swords were granted for merit under combat-zone conditions and add strong historical and collector appeal to the Soldbuch.
Personnel attached to regimental staff companies played vital operational roles in communications, coordination, logistics, and command support for frontline tank battalions, often working close behind active combat formations.
The Soldbuch also contains detailed equipment issue records, numerous official Panzer stamps, and several wartime signatures, making it an excellent insight piece into the administration and operational life of German armored troops.
An excellent original Panther-related Soldbuch with strong collector appeal, Normandy-associated Panzer history, wartime award entry, medical records, and extensive wartime use.
