WWII German EK1 Award Document for a Leutnant- Grenadier-Regiment 551 (329. Infanterie-Division) – Eastern Front 1944
A very attractive and desirable original Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse (EK1) award document awarded to Leutnant der Reserve Werner Reitz, serving with Stab / Grenadier-Regiment 551.
The document is dated 4 March 1944 and was issued from the divisional command post (Divisions-Gefechtsstand), carrying the signature of Generalleutnant Mayer.
Grenadier-Regiment 551 served with the 329. Infanterie-Division, which at this stage of the war was engaged in heavy defensive combat on the Eastern Front. In early 1944 the division fought in brutal retreat and defensive operations in the northern sector, during the Soviet winter offensives following the collapse of the Leningrad front. These battles were marked by constant pressure, counterattacks, and intense frontline fighting.
An EK1 awarded to an officer serving at regimental staff level is especially desirable, as such awards typically recognized repeated bravery, exceptional leadership, and distinguished service under difficult combat conditions.
The document remains in very good condition with clear typewritten entries, a visible divisional stamp, strong signature, and only light age wear and folding. There is a small punch hole to the left side, as commonly seen with archived documents.
A very appealing and historical late-war officer award document with strong Eastern Front combat background.
