Rare Pre-WWII Belgian Military Aviation Officer’s Visor Cap – Albert I Monogram with Double-Wing Badge

A scarce and highly attractive Belgian Military Aviation (Aéronautique Militaire Belge / Belgische Militaire Luchtvaart) officer’s visor cap for Varend-Personeel dating to approximately 1928–1935, featuring the distinctive King Albert I crowned monogram with embroidered double wings on the cap band. Examples from this early interwar period are rarely encountered on today’s collector’s market.

The cap is constructed in dark blue wool with a grey mohair top, finished with the original gilt officer’s chin cord secured by Belgian military aviation buttons. The front displays the beautifully embroidered Albert I royal monogram surmounted by the royal crown and flanked by double wings, the insignia worn by officers of the Belgian Military Aviation during the reign of King Albert I and continuing for a short period following his death in 1934 until insignia changes under King Leopold III.

A Belgian national cockade is mounted above the badge, while the interior retains its original sweatband and lining. The cap remains completely untouched and displays honest period wear consistent with age and service. The visor exhibits expected lacquer crazing and wear, while the interior lining shows age-related staining and wear, all clearly visible in the photographs. The absence of later alterations makes this an excellent original example.

Belgian Military Aviation items from the interwar years are considerably rarer than their later Belgian Air Force counterparts. Officer visor caps bearing the Albert I winged monogram seldom appear for sale and are highly desirable among collectors of Belgian military history, aviation memorabilia, and European interwar uniforms.

A rare opportunity to acquire an original pre-WWII Belgian military aviation officer’s visor cap from the formative years of Belgian military aviation. An exceptionally scarce and desirable piece of early Belgian military aviation history that would make an excellent addition to any advanced Belgian, aviation, or interwar military collection.
