Hoffmann Photo Postcard (Nr. R70) of Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves Holder
Rudolph Freiherr von Waldenfels
, who earned the
Ritterkreuz
on October 11, 19841 as
Oberst
and
Kommandeur
of
Schützen-Regiment 4
of the
6. Panzer-Division
and the
Eichenlaub
on May 14, 1944 as
Generalmajor
and
Kommandeur
of the
6. Panzer-Division
. Rudolph Freiherr von Waldenfels passed away on August 14, 1969. Good condition. Postcardsize. Knight's Cross Recommendation:
In the breakthrough against tough forest positions north of the Luga on 08.08.1941 Waldenfels led his men outstandingly. Later, during the attack on Soviet fieldworks near Vopolzowa on 13.08.1941, he and his men stormed through hostile minefields, bunkers and static tank turret positions to achieve their objective. Waldenfels personally led his men from the treeline and assisted in the capture of the first Soviet trench position. Despite strong flanking fire from Lopsi Waldenfels and his men were able to capture Vopolzowa after six days of battle and thus the division was finally able to break out of the forested/marshy terrain north of the Luga. For his contribution to this success Waldenfels received the Knight's Cross.
Oakleaves:
Awarded for the role his division played while trapped in the Kamenets-Podolsky "wandering pocket". It was his unit (6. Panzer-Division) which entered Buczacz on 06.04.1944 and linked up with 10. SS-Panzer-Division "Frundsberg" later that day, thus having the honour of initiating the contact between 1st and 4th Panzer Armies. (
