1914-1920 Campaign Military Medal of Honor (“Campaign Medal / War Medal”). Japanese participation in World War I was commemorated by a Military Medal of Honor created on November 6, 1915 by Imperial Edict No. 203. However Japan stayed longer in World War I than anticipated as they also took part in the Siberian Intervention. So two very similar medals were issued, one for service in 1914-15 and the other for the period 1914-20. If a person earned both they could only wear the latter. Original medal in overall good condition with matching wooden case with golden lettering.

Taisho Enthronement Commemorative Medal (Cased)

The Taisho Enthronement Commemorative Medal was created to celebrate the ascension of the Taisho Emperor to the throne, who did so upon the death of his father in 1912. The enthronement ceremonies, however, were held in 1915.  The medal was issued to people throughout the country who participated in the celebration ceremonies. It was issued in a men’s and a women’s version. The word "Banzai" is written in the two banners on the medal. Original medal with matching wooden case, with golden lettering, in good condition.

Original Japanese Victory Medal in very good condition with matching wooden case. The Victory Medal was a commemorative military medal of Japan awarded to mark service during the First World War. Established by Imperial Edict #406 on 17 September 1920, it was one of the series of Victory Medals created and awarded by the victorious allies after the First World War. Fifteen nations in all issued a version of the medal. All shared the rainbow suspension and service ribbon, but the medals’ designs varied by country. Japan’s design was different from all other versions as it did not depict the goddess Victory. This figure from Roman mythology would have no connection to Japanese culture, so a depiction of Takemikazuchi, the war god in Japanese mythology occupies the obverse of the medal. The Russo-Japanese War Medal was established on March 31, 1906 by Imperial Edict No. 51 in recognition of those who served in the Russo-Japanese War during the 37th and 38th years of the Meiji period (1904–1905). The Russo-Japanese War was fought between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. The major theatres of operations were the Liaodong Peninsula and Mukden in Southern Manchuria and the seas around Korea, Japan and the Yellow Sea. Original medal in overall good condition with matching wooden case with golden lettering. Ribbon is a bit dirty.

Yosegaki Hinomaru Flag (“Good Luck Flag”) (Named)

Original Yosegaki Hinomaru flag (“Good Luck Flag”) containing a lot of names. The owner of the flag ( gifted to ) was Mr. Tadao Hasimoto. The big Kanji reads "Sincere devotion in your military service to the nation.". Serious "been there look", stains, torns.. Condition as seen, The hinomaru yosegaki was traditionally presented to a man prior to his induction into the Japanese armed forces or before his deployment. The relatives, neighbors, friends, and co-workers of the person receiving the flag would write their names, good luck messages, exhortations, or other personal messages onto the flag in a formation resembling rays dissipating from the sun, though text was also written on any available space if the flag became crowded with messages. For the military man stationed far away from home and loved ones, the hinomaru offered communal hopes and prayers to the owner every time the flag was unfolded. It was believed that the flag, with its many signatures and slogans, would provide a combined force or power to see its owner through tough times, as well as reminding the soldier of his duties in the war, with the implication that the performance of that duty meant that the warrior was not expected to return home from battle. Often, departing servicemen would leave behind clipped fingernails and hair, so that his relatives would have something of him in which to hold a funeral.

Original Japanese Order of the Rising Sun 6th Class. The Order of the Rising Sun (旭日章, Kyokujitsu-shō) is a Japanese order, established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji. The Order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese government, created on 10 April 1875 by decree of the Council of State. The badge features rays of sunlight from the rising sun. The design of the Rising Sun symbolizes energy as powerful as the rising sun in parallel with the “rising sun” concept of Japan (“Land of the Rising Sun”). The order is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare or preservation of the environment. Prior to the end of World War II, it was also awarded for exemplary military service. Original Japanese Order of the Golden Kite 5th Class in its casing. The Order of the Golden Kite (金鵄勲章（きんしくんしょう) was an exclusively military award, abolished in 1947, conferred for bravery, leadership or command in battle. It ranked just below the Order of the Chrysanthemum in precedence and was the military equivalent of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers. The order consisted of seven classes. Enlisted rank soldiers were eligible for the 7th–5th classes, non-commissioned officers were eligible for the 6th–4th classes, junior officers for the 5th–3rd classes, field grade officers for the 4th–2nd classes and general officers for the 3rd-1st classes. Taisho era Soldier’s Paybook (ID) – Siege of Tsingtao (Japanese & British against Germans !!)

This type of Paybook (Identity Booklet for Soldiers) was used during 1912-1930. This I.D. belonged to Private (First Class) Tokuji Nishimura. He served with the 18th Transport Bataillon of the 18th Division (codename Chrysanthemum Division). He participated in the Siege of Tsingtao (Qingdao). In the third year of Taisho (1914), he departed from Nagasaki (Japan) on September 13, landed at Longkou (China) on September 17, and participated in the siege of Qingdao from October 29 to November 7. On December 7, Qingdao fell (meaning occupation), received the emperor's imperial edict of reward (meaning encouragement), and returned to China on December 7. The siege of Tsingtao (German: Belagerung von Tsingtau; Japanese: 青島の戦い; simplified Chinese: 青岛战役; traditional Chinese: 青島戰役) was the attack on the German port of Qingdao (Tsingtao) during World War I by Japan and the United Kingdom. The siege was waged against Imperial Germany between 27 August and 7 November 1914. The siege was the first encounter between Japanese and German forces, the first Anglo-Japanese operation of the war, and the only major land battle in the Asian and Pacific theatre during World War I. Medals of Honor (褒章, hōshō) are medals awarded by the Emperor of Japan. They are awarded to individuals who have done meritorious deeds and also to those who have achieved excellence in their field of work.[1] The Medals of Honor were established on December 7, 1881, and were first awarded the following year. Several expansions and amendments have been made since then. The medal design for all six types is the same, bearing the stylized characters 褒章 on a gilt central disc surrounded by a silver ring of cherry blossoms on the obverse; only the colors of the ribbon differ. If for some reason an individual were to receive a second medal of the same ribbon colour, then a second medal is not issued but rather a new bar is added to their current medal. The Medals of Honor are awarded twice each year, on April 29 (the birthday of the Shōwa Emperor) and November 3 (the birthday of the Meiji Emperor). The Medals of Honor with Dark Blue Ribbon were first awarded in 1919 to individuals who have made exceptionally generous financial contributions for the well-being of the public. 1894-95 Sino-Japanese War Medal. The First Sino–Japanese War, which lasted from 1 August 1894 to 17 April 1895, was fought between Qing Dynasty China and Meiji Japan, primarily over control of Korea. After more than six months of continuous successes by the Japanese army and naval forces, as well as the loss of the Chinese port of Weihai, the Qing leadership sued for peace in February 1895. This medal was awarded to soldiers that took part in this war.
