Wartime Signed Postcard of Ritterkreuzträger Generalleutnant Eugen-Heinrich Bleyer
€100,00Original wartime German postcard portrait of Ritterkreuzträger Oberst / later Generalleutnant Eugen-Heinrich Bleyer, featuring his original ink signature to the lower portion of the card. The postcard shows Bleyer wearing the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) together with Heer officer’s uniform and visor cap.
Bleyer was born on 20 November 1896 in Mainz and served throughout both World Wars. During the Second World War he commanded several infantry formations and became particularly noted for his leadership on the harsh Arctic front in northern Finland and the Soviet Union.
He served as:
- Commander of Infanterie-Regiment 379 of the 169. Infanterie-Division
- Later commander of the 258. Infanterie-Division
- Finally commander of the 181. Infanterie-Division
He received the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on 14 December 1941 as an Oberstleutnant and commander of Infanterie-Regiment 379. The award was granted for distinguished leadership during the fighting on the Arctic front, especially during the battles around:
- Salla
- Keinuvaara
- Kulantoinvaara
- Alakurtti
- Gora Lyssaja
These operations formed part of the brutal German-Finnish campaigns against Soviet forces in the far north during 1941.
Bleyer was promoted to:
- Generalmajor on 1 December 1943
- Generalleutnant on 20 July 1944
Following Germany’s surrender, he spent several years in Yugoslav captivity as a POW until 1952.
The postcard itself is an attractive wartime example and has been artistically trimmed/cut along the edges in period to create a more decorative appearance. The signature remains clear and well-presented. Reverse marked “Postkarte.”
A very nice signed portrait of a Knight’s Cross recipient and divisional commander with direct connection to the little-seen Arctic campaign of the Second World War.
Condition:
Good overall wartime condition with period trimming to the borders as shown. Light age toning and handling wear consistent with age. Signature remains strong and attractive.

Leon Degrelle – 28. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzer-Grenadier-Division “Wallonië”
€250,00SS-Standartenführer Leon Degrelle (15 June 1906, Bouillon † 31 March 1994, Málaga) was the Belgian leader of the Rexist Movement and one of the most famous foreign volunteers to serve in the Waffen-SS during the Second World War. He rose from enlisted service to command the Walloon volunteers on the Eastern Front, eventually leading the 28. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division “Wallonien.”
Degrelle distinguished himself in heavy fighting against Soviet forces, receiving some of the highest decorations awarded to non-German volunteers. He survived the war, escaping to Spain where he lived in exile until his death in 1994.

Ernst Tiburzy – Volkssturm-Bataillon 25/82, Festung Königsberg

The image shows Lutze together with a large group of Kriegsmarine sailors and officers aboard ship. The lower front margin bears a bold original ink signature of Viktor Lutze.
Viktor Lutze became Chief of Staff of the Sturmabteilung (SA) in 1934 following the death of Ernst Röhm during the Night of the Long Knives. As leader of the SA, Lutze remained one of the highest-ranking political figures within the Third Reich and frequently appeared at official military and propaganda events throughout the war years. He died on 2 May 1943 following injuries sustained in a serious automobile accident near Potsdam.
Reverse retains the original handwritten period notation: “Besuch des Stabschef der SA Lutze an Bord im Brest.” (“Visit of SA Chief Lutze aboard ship in Brest.”)

Collector’s Note
Nikolaus von Falkenhorst was one of the most significant German commanders of the Norwegian campaign, directly tied to Hitler’s strategic success in Scandinavia. His Knight’s Cross award citation was widely publicized as a propaganda tool. Original autographs of Falkenhorst on wartime postcards are sought-after, especially given his role as Oberbefehlshaber Norwegen and his later postwar trial and imprisonment.

Karl Nicolussi-Leck – SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 “Wiking”

Karl Nicolussi-Leck was the commander of a Panther company in the 5. SS-Panzer-Division “Wiking” during its efforts to relieve the trapped garrison at Kovel in March 1944. On the 27th of that month, with the German relief efforts still in progress, Nicolussi-Leck received an order to halt all offensive actions. By this point he was in radio conduct with the garrison, and felt that its relief was of the utmost importance. He thus told his radio operator to send a reply stating that he (Nicolussi-Leck) could not be found, and with that continued the push to the town. Three days later, following difficult fighting, he was able to reach the trapped garrison with seven tanks on the early morning of the 30th. By doing so he was able to substantially reinforce the garrison’s defences, and he remained with them until Kovel was finally relieved for good. His recommendation also says that he destroyed 17 tanks in the process, although it is possible this number is for the whole company. Either way, Nicolussi-Leck’s actions were judged to be worthy of the Knight’s Cross, and he received this award shortly afterwards. (Source: Traces of War)

Ritterkreuz: “Following heavy retreat battles, on the night of the 25./26.07.1944 the Tannenberg Line between Orphanage Hill and the Gulf of Finland was occupied by the Regiment 49 ‘De Ruyter’. The Regiment had the mission of holding this line against all enemy attacks. The enemy commenced an immediate assault with a much greater number of divisions, which were aided by strong tank, artillery and air support. In a sacrificial battle, the Regiment succeeded in defeating all enemy attacks with extremely high losses for the foe. In this major struggle the commander of the Regiment, SS-Obersturmbannführer Collani, fell in battle. In this moment of crisis his adjutant, SS-Hauptsturmführer Ertel, took over leadership of the Regiment. Undeterred by the strong enemy fire from tanks, rocket launchers, artillery and aircraft, he repeatedly went to the hotspots of the fighting. From these points he inspired officers, NCOs and men to offer up their greatest possible resistance via his own exemplary behaviour. Even after being wounded by a shell splinter to the face he remained with the Regiment and maintained a firm grip over its command. His crisis-proof, exemplary attitude was of immeasurable value to the Brigade in the hours of its greatest test on the battlefield. He significantly contributed to the prevention of the intended enemy breakthrough against Reval.”

Major Joachim Müncheberg (31 December 1918 – 23 March 1943) was a German Luftwaffe fighter pilot of the Second World War and one of the highest-scoring aces of the conflict, credited with 135 confirmed aerial victories. The majority of his successes were achieved over the Western Front, including 102 victories against Western Allied aircraft, of which 46 were against Supermarine Spitfire fighters. He also claimed 33 victories on the Eastern Front.
Joachim Müncheberg was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on 14 September 1940 as Oberleutnant und Staffelkapitän of 7./Jagdgeschwader 26 “Schlageter”. He subsequently received the Eichenlaub (12. Verleihung) on 7 May 1941, again as Oberleutnant und Staffelkapitän, JG 26 “Schlageter”. His final and highest decoration, the Schwerter (19. Verleihung), was awarded on 9 September 1942 as Hauptmann und stellvertretender Geschwaderkommodore of Jagdgeschwader 51 “Mölders”.

Nehring joined the military service on 16 September 1911 in the Infanterie-Regiment 152. He became a commissioned Leutnant on 18 December 1913. On 26 October 1940 he received command of the 18th Panzer Division at Chemnitz, which he commanded during the operations Barbarossa and Typhoon. The division led by Nehring, is accused by numerous current accounts, of war crimes.
Nehring took command of the Afrika Korps in May 1942 and took part in the last major Axis offensive (Operation Brandung) of the Western Desert campaign and the subsequent Battle of Alam Halfa (31 August – 7 September 1942), during which he was wounded in an air raid. Between November and December 1942, he commanded the LXXXX Army Corps, the German contingent in Tunisia.
After North Africa, Nehring was posted to the Eastern Front where he commanded first the XXIV. Panzer Corps, and then from July to August 1944 the Fourth Panzer Army. Nehring then returned to the XXIV in August 1944 and led the Corps until March 1945 when he was made commander of the 1st Panzer Army. During 1944 he was also the commanding officer of the XXXXVIII Panzer Corps. Following the end of the war, Nehring wrote a comprehensive history of the German panzer forces from 1916 to 1945, Die Geschichte der deutschen Panzerwaffe 1916 bis 1945. He also wrote the foreword to Len Deighton’s Blitzkrieg: From the Rise of Hitler to the Fall of Dunkirk.

He would receive the Knight’s Cross for his actions this day as well as for prior successes as an anti-tank gunner.”
