(K) Gruppe/ Lehrgeschwader 1.Awarded for the successes of his Gruppe in the Norwegian Campaign, Battle of France and Battle of Britain. His Gruppe had sunk a total of 40000 GRT of enemy shipping by the time he was awarded the Knight’s Cross and had damaged many other ships as well (including a battleship during the Norwegian Campaign).
