Oakleaves: "Awarded for his exceptional achievements as a Kampfgruppe commander in the Caucasus. In one two day period it destroyed 22 enemy tanks. Gazen was also recognized for his contributions to the planned withdrawal of German divisions from the Terek and Kuban areas."
Swords: "Awarded for distinguishing himself near Oktoberfeld (close to Melitopol) on the 30.09.1943. His performance here was such that he was named in the Wehrmachtbericht of the 03.10.1943."
