Original 3x Award document set to Obergefreiter Karl Otto, a Normandy paratrooper of the “notorious” Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 6 also called “The Lions of Carentan”. Otto was awarded the unique combination of an EK2 and Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in June 1944, so directly in the heat of battle against American paratroopers and Utah Beach forces in and near the town of Carentan. The grouping consists of:
- Award document for the Fallschirmschützen-Abzeichen, awarded in April 1943. Facsimile signed by Generaloberst Bruno Loerzer (RK+PLM).
- Award document for the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber, awarded on June 27, 1944. Hand signed by Oberstleutnant Friedrich August von der Heydte (RK+EL), as regimental commander in his Regiments-Gefechtsstand southwest of Carentan. Stamped with Fp.Nr. 55096A, attributed to the Truppenarzt & Stab of II./FJR6. Notice the infantry assault badge was awarded frequently by FJR6 in favor of the Erdkampfabzeichen; several similar original examples exist.
