Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Albert Kesselring. Generalfeldmarschall Albert Kesselring (30.11.1885 † 16.07.1960) was one of the most prominent senior commanders of the Luftwaffe and later the German Armed Forces during the Second World War. He was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub und Schwertern for his leadership during the campaigns in Poland, France, the Mediterranean, and Italy. As Oberbefehlshaber Süd and later Oberbefehlshaber Südwest, Kesselring became particularly known for organizing the stubborn German defense of Italy against the Allied advance between 1943 and 1945.
