Historical Description
Berchtesgaden and the Obersalzberg became internationally known during the Third Reich as one of the most important political and symbolic locations associated with Adolf Hitler and the Nazi leadership. The Berghof and surrounding compounds transformed the quiet Bavarian mountain region into a center of political activity, propaganda, diplomacy, and elite social life.
The Österreichische Legion, referenced within the photographs, consisted of Austrian National Socialists who fled Austria following the failed July Putsch of 1934 and reorganized in Germany prior to the Anschluss of 1938. Camps such as Lechfeld became important centers for Austrian Nazi exiles and political organization.
The inclusion of a signed Adolf Hitler postcard together with approximately 40 original photographs and cards gives this estate particularly strong collector and historical appeal. The archive captures a mixture of political symbolism, alpine tourism, social life, and personal documentation connected to Berchtesgaden and the wider Obersalzberg environment.
An evocative and increasingly difficult-to-find historical grouping with excellent research and display potential.
