“Egon Giese was born in Elsfleth on the 13th of August 1920, joined the Waffen-SS on the 20th of May 1940 and joined 2. (Krad) Kompanie of the Aufkl.Abt. LAH during its formation in Metz. He was lightly wounded during the fighting near near Zibermanowka (today called Ivanivka) on the 30th of July 1941, That day, the Aufklärungsabteilung was involved in mopping up the last defenders of Hill 258 near the village, resulting in many dead and wounded. Still with the 2. Kompanie, by then SS-Unterscharführer Giese was awarded the Nahkampfspange in Bronze on the 31st of August 1943.” Source: Timo R.
