Offered is a Big, Scarce and Stunning Group of Hermann Pfeiffer, who served as an Adjutant in various units such as Infanterie-Regiment 331, Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 217, Regimentsadjutant of Reserve-Grenadier-Regiment 157 and Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 297 of the 8. Gebirgs-Division (a Division that only existed 1 year).
All his commanders spoke highly of him. On one of the ‘Beurteilungen’ (Reviews) his Batallions Commander (Infanterie-Regiment 331) wrote about him: “Vor dem Feind hat er sich als erster in seiner Kp. durch ein mit grossem Schneid durchgeführtes Spähtruppunternehmen das E.K. erworben” (Pfeiffer was a Platoon leader in 1./ I.R. 311 then), another wrote ““Vor dem Feinde in allen Einsätzen durch sein unerschrockenes tapferes Verhalten und ein umsichtiges entschossenes Handeln ausgezeichnet bewährt.”
Interestingly, he also helped out a fugitive, which was wanted by the Gestapo! A whole statement and report of the fellow, stating that Sir Pfeiffer helped him out, even knowing he was wanted by the Gestapo.
Starting of with the following stunning material:
- Soldbuch with a nice ID Photo (in which he wears all his awards, even the Bronze NSDAP ribbon bar). The original award page might have / has been lost and a secondary (postwar) page added / authentic or I don’t know if it is a postwar addition by himself, family or another collector (confirmed that the estate came straight from a collector that got it from the family). No comments on authenticity but there are no entries faked or extra awards added within the Soldbuch. It’s a loose page that can easily be withdrawn from the lot. I’m honestly in the 50/50 camp about it’s authenticity. Interesting notation that he got his own 7,65 Pistol.
- His Erkennungsmarke (“-301- 1./ Ers.J.Rgt. 91”), as matched with his Soldbuch.
- A small but clear photograph of Pfeiffer wearing all of his Awards and Adjutant lanyard.
- “Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse” Award document, signed by Generalleutnant Oskar Vogl (see “Am Tage des Waffenstillstandes“)
- “Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse” Award document, signed by Generalleutnant Wolf Trierenberger (RK)
- “Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern” Award document, signed by General der Pioniere Karl Sachs (DKIG, Died in Soviet Captivity)
- “Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen” Award document, signed by an unknown Oberstleutnant
- 4 page statement of Alponse Nast (fled als Political Refugee from Germany, became a member of the Resistance in France; captured in 1942 and was transported to Dachau, where he fled in 1944). In which he declares that Oberleutnant Pfeiffer helped him with the flee and return to France, even knowing he was wanted bei the Gestapo.
- Multiple extra documents from during the war and after. Such as of his accident and wounds in December 1944.
- Postwar Award documents from Veteran- and Sportshooting Associations.
- 2 badges of the Sportshooting Association.
- 2 Photographs of Pfeiffer’s original uniform.
- 1 Photograph of his Father during the war of 1914/18.
- Article from a newspaper of 1986 on Pfeiffer’s function in the Veteran Organisation with photo and also the original award document shown in the newspaper photo.
- A copy of a complete 24-file of him (researched myself in the Bundesarchiv) comes with the group!
