Friedrich Kless – Kampfgeschwader 55

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Friedrich Kless. Generalmajor Friedrich Kless (07.10.1906 in Bayreuth † 06.04.1994 in Krailing) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on October 14, 1940 as Major und Kommandeur of the II. Gruppe/ Kampfgeschwader 55.

Awarded for the success of his Gruppe during the Battle of Britain. Starting from when he took up command of the formation on the 27.07.1940, the unit dropped a total of 780 tons of bombs on targets in England over the next three months. During this time the most notable success was destroying an important aircraft factory on the south coast of England.

Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
