Lehmann was awarded the Ritterkreuz (Knight’s Cross) for his long run of successful leadership in the Kriegsmarine (a combat record which extended beyond the U-Boat arm), as well as his total of 3 ships sunk or damaged late in the war. Lehmann was also the last U-Boat commander to receive the Knight’s Cross.
