Knight’s Cross: “Awarded for distinguishing himself during the 5th Battle of Courland. The battle began on the 20.02.1945 with a major Soviet assault. Dr. Daubert and the remnants of his Regiment defended a position near Bunkas, however since reinforcements came too late they were unable to prevent a Soviet breakthrough in their vicinity. Dr. Daubert and the remains of his Regiment (about 200 men) were encircled during the following night around the regimental command post. However, from positions around the edge of a gravel pit, Dr. Daubert and his men were able to defeat all Soviet attempts to crush them. After a new defensive line had been created about 1.5 km to their rear Dr. Daubert led his men in a breakout on the 22.02.1945. Along with the staff of the I./A.R. 126 they succeeded in breaking through an enemy assembly area and reaching friendly lines.”
