Postwar Signature of Kai Bräundle-Schmidt, who earned the Knight’s Cross with Grenadier-Regiment 501 of the 290. Infanterie-Division.
On the 07.02.1944 Hauptmann Bräundle-Schmidt was involved in defeating a Soviet breakthrough attempt during the defensive fighting northwest of Newel. Although being wounded himself he led a small group of soldiers (which included his own messengers and communication staff) in a counterthrust, ejected a Siberian ski company from the German trenches and retook the German defensive position atop the vital Gora Hill. He would later be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this actions.
