Original wartime signature on a wartime photograph of Klaus Häberlen. Major Klaus Häberlen (14.04.1916 †07.04.2002) earned the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on March 19, 1943 as Hauptmann und Kommandeur of the I. Gruppe/ Kampfgeschwader 51 “Edelweiss” and the Ritterkreuz on June 20, 1943 as Hauptmann und Kommandeur of the I. Gruppe/ Kampfgeschwader 51 “Edelweiss”. Small format photograph measuring approximately 5.5 × 7.7 cm. Condition as seen. The photograph bears an original ink signature across the lower front, making it a desirable signed wartime collectible.
Knight’s Cross: “Awarded after flying 297 bomber sorties (counted as 306 front flights), the vast majority of these in the East. He particularly distinguished himself over the southern section of the Eastern front during the winter of 1942/43, in which he destroyed 30 aircraft on the ground, 8 tanks, 150+ trucks/horse-drawn wagons and 5 artillery positions. By the time of receiving the Knight’s Cross he had also scored hits on 2 Soviet destroyers and damaged 42500 GRT of shipping in the Black Sea.”
Provenance: From the estate of former HJ member Reinhold Brennfleck (1928–2022) from Lauda, Baden, who wrote to numerous Ritterkreuzträger in 1943–1944 requesting signatures and signed photographs, forming an exceptional wartime autograph collection.
