Original WWII German award certificate (Verleihungsurkunde) for the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern (War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords), awarded to W. Feldwebel Erwin Damasß, serving with I./ Infanterie-Regiment 130 of the 45. Infanterie-Division and dated 10 December 1940 in the field (Im Felde).
The certificate features the recipient’s typed name and military unit, the original handwritten signature of Generalmajor Gerhard Körner, commander of the 45. Infanterie-Division, and a circular military service seal. Generalmajor Körner was killed in a car accident in 1941!
The War Merit Cross with Swords recognised meritorious service connected with the German war effort under conditions involving military operations. This certificate is an early-war example, dated December 1940, and documents the award to a named non-commissioned officer serving with an infantry regiment.
Condition: Age-related toning, creasing, a horizontal fold, and two holes along the left margin; the seal is partly faint.
An interesting original award document for collectors of WWII German award certificates, infantry history and Wehrmacht militaria.
