LW Soldbuch & NSFK Flugbuch Grouping – Grenadier-Regiment 1036 (59. Infanterie-Division) – WIA Dec. 1944 (HVPl. Immerath, Ortskommandantur Zwolle)

Outstanding original WWII German document grouping belonging to Gerhard Schmid, born 18 June 1926 in Aalen (Württemberg), documenting his remarkable path from NSFK glider pilot training to late-war frontline combat service.

The grouping includes:

  • Original Luftwaffe Soldbuch, complete with photograph
  • Original NSFK Flugbuch
  • Feldpostcard
  • Copy of a photo of him and his birth- and death date

Schmid began training with the NSFK (Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps) on 29 August 1941, successfully completing all major glider pilot qualifications. This documents his progression through Germany’s wartime aviation training system before entering military service.

Of particular historical interest is Schmid’s later transfer from Luftwaffe service into frontline ground combat during the final phase of the war—reflecting the increasingly desperate manpower situation in late 1944.

He served with: 2. Kompanie / Grenadier-Regiment 1036 of the 59. Infanterie-Division

The 59. Infanterie-Division fought heavy defensive actions in the Netherlands and western Germany during late 1944.

On 31 December 1944, Schmid was wounded in combat by shell fragments to the left thumb and evacuated to HVP Immerath. He remained hospitalized until 7 January 1945, after which he returned to duty.

A rare and historically rich named grouping with excellent research potential. Gerhard Schmid survived the war and passed away on 3 December 2012.
