Historical Description
The NSDAP Member’s Armband (Armbinde) was one of the most recognizable insignia of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei – NSDAP) during the Third Reich. Introduced shortly after the party came to power in 1933, it served as the standard identifying insignia for party members and was worn both independently on civilian clothing and in conjunction with various political and organizational uniforms.
The standard design consisted of a red cotton armband bearing a white roundel with a black swastika, symbolizing party membership. Depending on the manufacturer, these armbands were produced using several different construction methods. One of the most desirable variants is the BeVo (Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher, Wuppertal) type, renowned for its high-quality woven manufacture. BeVo was one of Germany’s foremost producers of woven insignia and supplied a wide range of military and political organizations throughout the Third Reich.
NSDAP armbands were worn by party members at political rallies, official ceremonies, public events, and during daily party activities. Numerous affiliated organizations—including the SA, Hitler Youth, and other political formations—wore distinctive armband patterns based upon the standard NSDAP design.
Today, original NSDAP armbands remain among the most iconic and widely collected artifacts of the Third Reich period, valued for their historical significance and their association with one of the most recognizable political symbols of the twentieth century.
