Kummetz received the Knight’s Cross for his leadership of the Kriegsschiffgruppe V Oslo during the Operation “Weserübung”. Despite heavy losses to his force he nevertheless managed to land his troops, make contact with the German Fallschirmjäger nearby and secure the capture of Oslo.
