Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze by Assmann – Panzer Assault Badge in Bronze

Original Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze (Panzer Assault Badge) by F. W. Assmann & Söhne, identified by the characteristic Assmann “A” maker mark on the reverse.

This example shows very heavy wear and age with a strong untouched patina throughout. The finish has largely faded due to period wear and corrosion, giving the badge an authentic battlefield-used appearance. Despite the condition, the badge still retains clear detailing to the tank, wreath and eagle.

The reverse retains its original hardware setup with functional pin assembly. The badge is priced accordingly due to the worn condition but remains an original maker-marked combat award from the period.

Historical Description

The Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze was instituted on 20 December 1939 and awarded to personnel of armored reconnaissance and panzer support units who participated in armored combat operations without belonging to tank crews eligible for the silver grade.

The bronze grade became associated primarily with:

  • Panzergrenadiers
  • Armored reconnaissance troops
  • Assault gun support personnel
  • Other mechanized combat formations

The design features a moving Panzer tank surrounded by an oakleaf wreath surmounted by the national eagle. Early examples by makers such as Assmann are highly collected today, especially tombak variants with clear manufacturer markings.
