Studioportrait of Josef Schneider – Infanterie-Regiment 521 (296. Infanterie-Division) – Wartime Signed!
Very attractive original wartime signed studio portrait of Ritterkreuzträger Josef Schneider, awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross in 1944 for his service with Infanterie-Regiment 521 of the 296. Infanterie-Division.
The portrait is an excellent close-up studio image showing Schneider wearing an impressive award display, including his Knight’s Cross, Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, Nahkampfspange, and several additional combat awards, making this a highly desirable piece for collectors of decorated Wehrmacht personnel.
The photograph measures approximately 14 x 9 cm and is an original wartime Kodak postcard-sized private photograph. It features Schneider’s original wartime signature in green ink on the obverse, simply signed “Schneider.”
A particularly nice aspect of this piece is its provenance. The photo originates from the estate of former Hitler Youth member Reinhold Brennfleck (1928–2022) from Lauda, Baden, who wrote to numerous Knight’s Cross recipients during 1943–1944 requesting signed photographs and autographs. This gives the piece a strong and appealing historical background.
The photograph remains in very good condition with clear image detail, strong contrast, and a bold period signature. A very desirable original signed portrait of a Knight’s Cross holder with excellent display value, strong provenance, and outstanding award detail.
