Wehrpass Bau-Bataillon 85 – Afrika-Feldzug, Tobruk & El Alamein – 2x Awards (One RARE!)

Original interesting and extensively completed Wehrpass documenting the service of a soldier who served with army construction units during the Second World War, including service in the North African theatre.

The Wehrpass retains its original portrait photograph and contains numerous handwritten entries, unit assignments, promotions, official stamps and a detailed campaign calendar recording operations across several campaigns.

Notable historical details include:

• Bau-Bataillon 85 and associated construction and replacement units, as recorded in the unit service section.
• North African campaign service, with entries in the campaign calendar relating to fighting around Tobruk and El Alamein, alongside other recorded operations.
• The Italienisch-Deutsche Erinnerungsmedaille für den Feldzug in Afrika (Italo-German Africa Campaign Medal), recorded in the decorations section.
• An unusual entry referring to a certificate from the Oberbefehlshaber der Panzerarmee Afrika “Urkunde Oberbefehlshaber Panzerarmee Afrika für gute Fahrleistung (?) in Afrika“, apparently connected with good driving performance in Africa. This is a particularly interesting detail and warrants further study.
• Numerous further service entries, promotions, stamps and handwritten annotations extending from the early war years into the final period of the conflict.

The campaign calendar is a particularly valuable feature, providing a substantial chronological record of the soldier’s wartime service. Combined with the original photograph, the Africa campaign medal entry and the reference to driving performance in North Africa, it makes this a distinctive document for collectors of Wehrmacht personnel records and the German-Italian campaign in Africa.
