Werner Ewald – Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 2 (Festung Brest)
Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Werner Ewald. Major Werner Ewald (23.10.1914 † 05.10.1993) earned the Ritterkreuz on September 17, 1944 as Major und Kommandeur of the II. Bataillon/ Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 2 of the 2. Fallschirmjäger-Division.
Awarded for distinguishing himself during the siege of Fortress Brest in 1944. When the Americans succeeded in achieving a deep penetration in the northwestern part of the defenses, Major Ewald launched a counterthrust with his Bataillon that pushed the opposition back to their jump-off positions. He would be recognized appropriately for this and other actions during the siege.
Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
