Winterhilfswerk (WHW) Pappeabzeichen – Flakstellung mit Geschützbesatzung

An original German Winterhilfswerk (WHW) donation badge, manufactured from pressed cardboard (Pappe), featuring a detailed relief depicting an anti-aircraft gun crew operating a Flakgeschütz against a dramatic red background.

The obverse displays several artillerymen serving the gun, with an industrial or urban skyline in the background and a stylised eagle motif at the bottom. The reverse retains its original horizontal metal pin attachment.

These small-format donation badges were distributed during the National Socialist Winterhilfswerk campaigns, which collected donations for social relief programmes. The WHW produced a vast variety of collectible badges in different materials, with subjects ranging from military and industrial themes to regional landmarks, folklore and historical motifs.

Condition: The badge shows age-related wear, surface rubbing, minor losses and deterioration to the reverse, including visible adhesive residue around the pin attachment. The relief and contrasting red-and-ochre colours remain clearly visible on the obverse.
