WWII Flemish Lion Sleeve Shield (“Legion Flandern” etc.)

Rare original Flemish Lion sleeve shield of locally manufactured Flemish construction, featuring the characteristic black rampant Flemish lion embroidered on a yellow wool shield-shaped backing.

This type of locally produced Flemish lion shield is documented in connection with Flemish volunteers of the SS-Freiwilligen Legion Flandern, with similar locally manufactured examples also known from Flemish DRK personnel.

The shield is constructed from yellow wool with a black embroidered Flemish lion and contrasting black border. The piece displays honest period wear, age and use, including visible wear to the wool and embroidery. The condition is exactly as shown in the photographs.

A particularly interesting and desirable piece of Flemish collaboration and Waffen-SS insignia, especially for collectors concentrating on Flemish volunteer formations, Legion Flandern and locally manufactured insignia.
