WWII Press Photo – Ritterkreuzträger Rudolf Bäcker – 9. Infanterie-Division
Original WWII press photograph of Sanitäts-Feldwebel Rudolf Bäcker (1914–2005), shown wearing the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes around his neck.
The reverse bears the contemporary handwritten identification together with the original Weltbild Berlin press/archive stamp.
Rudolf Bäcker served as a Sanitäts-Feldwebel (Medical Staff Sergeant) with Grenadier-Regiment 36, 9. Infanterie-Division. He was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 18 June 1943 and subsequently received the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on 18 September 1943, while serving with the Stab, II./Grenadier-Regiment 36.
The photograph is therefore an excellent original wartime portrait of a documented Knight’s Cross recipient, showing Bäcker with his Ritterkreuz prominently displayed.
