Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel (1891–1944) served in the Imperial German Army during WWI, the Reichswehr during the Weimar period and later the Wehrmacht. During WWII he commanded the 7. Panzer-Division, the German forces in North Africa and, from late 1943, Heeresgruppe B in Normandy. He became internationally known as the “Desert Fox” (Wüstenfuchs).
