Original WWII German award document (Verleihungsurkunde) for the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse (War Merit Cross 2nd Class), awarded to Heinrich Krause, employed as a Pförtner (gatekeeper or doorman) at Holzen, on 27 September 1944.

Issued in the name of the Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht, the document bears a printed signature of August Schmidt above the printed designation Kommandierender General und Befehlshaber im Luftgau VI (Commanding General and Commander of Luftgau VI). The document also retains its circular official service seal.

The War Merit Cross was awarded for meritorious service contributing to the German war effort. Unlike the version with swords, the award without swords was generally associated with distinguished service away from direct combat. Its presentation to a civilian employee is consistent with the award’s use to recognize contributions to the wartime administration and support system.
