An original two-document award group belonging to Michael (Michel) Ramsauer, documenting two German military decorations from the Second World War.
1. Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern – Verleihungsurkunde (War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords – Award Certificate)
Awarded to Obergefreiter Michel Ramsauer, serving with 4./ Landesschützen-Bataillon 665 (4th Company, Landesschützen Battalion 665). The certificate is dated 1. September 1944 in Hamburg.
The issuing authority is the Stellvertretender Kommandierender General des X. Armeekorps und Befehlshaber im Wehrkreis X (Deputy Commanding General of X Army Corps and Commander of Military District X). The document names General der Infanterie Wetzel as the senior issuing authority and bears the official service seal (Dienstsiegel), award number 79 and award-list reference Verleihungsliste Nr. 14a.
2. Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 – Verleihungsurkunde (Eastern Front Medal – Award Certificate)
Awarded to Gefreiter Michael Ramsauer on 15. März 1944. This certificate confirms the award of the Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42, commonly known as the Ostmedaille (Eastern Front Medal), commemorating service during the winter campaign on the Eastern Front of 1941–1942.
The document bears an official military service seal and a handwritten certification signature, with the officer’s rank given as Major und Bataillonskommandeur (Major and Battalion Commander).
Historical Interest
This named award pair documents the decorations of a German serviceman in 1944, combining a War Merit Cross with Swords and the Eastern Front Medal. The KVK certificate’s reference to Landesschützen-Bataillon 665 and the identified issuing authority offer useful starting points for further research into Ramsauer’s military service.
The recipient’s first name appears as Michel on the KVK certificate and Michael on the Ostmedaille certificate. Both forms are retained here as they appear on the original documents.
Condition
Both certificates show age-related toning, folds and creasing. The KVK certificate has pronounced vertical folds and minor spotting; the Ostmedaille certificate also shows fold lines and handling wear. The official seals, printed details and handwritten certification signatures remain visible.
