An attractive and historically interesting First World War award document grouping belonging to Infanterist Albert Ullhauser, born on 9. Mai 1893 in Kempten, Bavaria.

The group consists of two original award documents:

1. Vorläufiger Ausweis – Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse (Provisional Certificate – Iron Cross 2nd Class)

Issued to Infanterist Albert Ullhauser by the I. Ersatz-Bataillon des Königlich Bayerischen 3. Infanterie-Regiments. At the time of issue, he was serving with the regiment’s Verwundeten-Abteilung (Wounded Soldiers’ Detachment). His previous unit is recorded as the Bayerisches Infanterie-Reserve-Regiment 17, 10. Kompanie.

The certificate was issued at Augsburg in 1916, with the original regimental stamp and the signature of the Major und Bataillons-Kommandeur.

2. Verleihungsurkunde – Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz (Award Certificate – Wound Badge)

An attractive, elaborately printed Bavarian award certificate, issued in the name of His Majesty the King of Bavaria, awarding Albert Ullhauser the Wound Badge in Black for a recorded wound.

The certificate is dated Passau, 20. September 1918, and bears the official designation of the Königliches Bezirkskommando.

A very appealing combination of two wartime awards, documenting Ullhauser’s service and his experience as a wounded soldier during the First World War. The different dates also provide a useful chronological record of his military experience, from the Iron Cross award in 1916 to the Wound Badge certificate in 1918.

Condition

Both documents show age-related toning, folds and handling. The provisional Iron Cross certificate has pronounced horizontal and vertical fold lines, with some creasing and minor age marks. The Wound Badge certificate also shows folds, light staining and general age wear. Both remain attractive and legible.
