Panzerkampfabzeichen II. Stufe Award Doc: ALFRED RUBBEL (!) schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503 (Tiger, King Tiger!)

0,01

An exceptional and historically significant original Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber, II. Stufe, awarded to Fahnenjunker-Feldwebel Alfred Rubbel, a documented and highly regarded tank commander of the 1. Kompanie / schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503.

This outstanding set is accompanied by the original award recommendation document (Antrag für Verleihung), which explicitly records Rubbel’s role as “Kommandant Panzer VI (Tiger)”. Notably, the reverse of the document details the operational days credited toward the award, offering valuable insight into his frontline service and combat record.

Alfred Rubbel (b. 1921, East Prussia) volunteered for the Panzertruppe in 1940 and served continuously on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945. His service included assignments with Panzer Regiments 29 and 4, culminating in his role within the elite schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503, operating both the Tiger I and later the Tiger II (King Tiger). He ultimately attained the rank of reserve lieutenant within the battalion staff.

Following the war, Rubbel transitioned to civilian agricultural work (1946–1956), before resuming military service in the Bundeswehr (1956–1978), where he held various staff, troop command, and instructional roles within armored units, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He remained active in military technology fields until 1992.

During the war, Rubbel is credited with approximately 60 tank victories, placing him among the notable German Panzer commanders of the period. He is further associated with a particularly remarkable engagement near Wildendürnbach (Austrian-Czech border), where he reportedly destroyed a T-34 using an indirect firing method—an unusual and well-documented action referenced in “Memories of the Tiger Division 503.”

Highlights:

  • Original Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber, 2nd Class

  • Named and documented to Alfred Rubbel

  • Includes original award recommendation (Antrag)

  • Clear mention of Tiger tank command role

  • Detailed service-day record on reverse

  • Direct link to schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503 (Tiger unit)

  • Strong provenance to a recognized Panzer ace

A rare opportunity to acquire a well-documented award group tied to a prominent Tiger commander, combining historical significance, traceable provenance, and strong collector appeal.

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class (Serial Numbered & Researched!)

250,00

Original Soviet Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class. This serial number was researched and it belonged to Major KUZNETSOV PETR FILIPPOVICH, Chief editor of the 64 rifle division newspaper “Vpered za Rodinu” (“Forward, for Motherland!”). Comes with its original backplate and the red enamel is completely intact as well as the golden hammer & sic. Condition as seen.

Since the beginning of the offensive on 23 June 1944, the chief editor of the
newspaper “Forward, for Motherland!” comrade KUZNETSOV ensured proper and
timely issue of the newspaper and special leaflets. This was achieved in the
complication of being constantly on the move during the offensive. As the result of
this, the soldiers and the officers were properly informed on the main evens on the
fronts, on the division combat events, and on the Allied combat operations. The
division newspaper under the lead of comrade KUZNETSOV has been playing an
important role in raising the troops combat moral, popularisation of the heroic
feats, and education the troops in being brave soldiers. Overcoming tremendous
difficulties, KUZNETSOV managed to maintain tight contact with the military
correspondents. He personally ventured out and interviewed the troops. The
division newspaper is an important social information channel, which mobilises
the troops and illuminates on the most relevant and important topics, and
assisted the combat successes.

Comrade KUZNETZOV deserves state award – order “PATRIOTIC WAR II CLASS”.

WWI Württemberg Enlisted Visor Cap – Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 120 (Somme, Verdun, Flanderns!)

300,00

Original enlisted man’s visor cap from the Kingdom of Württemberg, attributed to Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 120, a unit with extensive and active service throughout World War 1.

The cap remains in good, color-fresh condition, with the cloth and trim retaining a pleasing and well-preserved appearance. It shows typical signs of age, including light moth damage and a few very small holes, the most noticeable being a small hole on the reverse within the red band.

Inside, the cap is clearly marked with the wearer’s name “Stemmler” alongside the regimental designation “Res. IR 120”, giving it strong historical authenticity and personal attribution.

Regimental History – Reserve Infanterie-Regiment 120

This regiment saw continuous frontline service across both the Western and Eastern Fronts:

  • Vosges Campaign (Aug–Sept 1914)
Fighting in the Vosges Mountains around Grendelbruch, Saint-Dié, and Saarburg during the early mobile phase of the war.

  • Somme Sector (1914–1915)
Deployment near La Boisselle, marking the transition into static trench warfare.

  • Eastern Front – Russian Poland (1915)
Engagements at Kolno, the Narew River, and Tykocin during a period of renewed maneuver warfare.

  • Return to the Western Front (late 1915)
Operations in Lorraine and the Verdun sector.

  • Major Battles of 1916
Participation in heavy fighting at Verdun, Reims, and along the Somme (Ancre sector), reflecting intense attritional warfare.

  • Flanders (1916–1918)
Extended service in Belgium, including Wytschaete, Langemarck, and Cambrai—key trench warfare sectors.

  • Final Operations (1918)
Fighting in Northern France (Lille, Douai, Oise and Matz sectors) followed by retreat actions toward Lorraine and southeast of Cambrai.

A highly collectible and historically rich example, directly tied to a regiment that fought in many of the defining campaigns of the Great War. The named interior adds an extra layer of research potential and personal connection.

Walter Gerlach (1896–1964)

Walter Gerlach (born 25 August 1896 in Gusow; died 19 April 1964 in Haiger) was a German SS officer and concentration camp functionary during the Nazi period.

After serving as a soldier in the First World War, Gerlach worked in his family’s wood products business, which went bankrupt in 1930. That same year he joined the NSDAP (membership no. 307,120) and in 1931 entered the SS (no. 14,567). He rose quickly, becoming an SS leader in the 27th SS-Standarte in 1932.

From August to November 1934, Gerlach directed the Columbiahaus prison in Berlin, which later became one of the first concentration camps. He then served briefly as camp commandant of KZ Sachsenburg (December 1934 – April 1935) before moving to an adjutant role in Dachau under commandant Heinrich Deubel.

Despite being convicted in 1935 for involvement in a brawl, Gerlach remained in the SS, later leading SS-Abschnitt VII in Königsberg and working from 1942 in positions tied to the Reich Commissioner for the Strengthening of Germandom. In 1944 he became chief of staff to the Higher SS and Police Leader Günther Pancke in occupied Denmark.

After Germany’s defeat, Gerlach was arrested in May 1945 and interned until 1948. In November 1947 he was called as a witness in the Nuremberg Trials. He lived in West Germany after the war and died in 1964.
