Gemeinschaft der Ritterkreuzträger – Membership Card of Josef Schuß (RK)

130,00

Original (document from after war!) Gemeinschaft der Ritterkreuzträger (GdR e.V.) Membership card of Josef Schuß. Obergefreiter Josef Schuß (17.12.1917-29.01.1995) earned the Ritterkreuz on September 4, 1942 as Obergefreiter and MG-Schütze in the 3. Kompanie/ Infanterie-Regiment 520 of the 296. Infanterie-Division. Also signed by him! With photo attached!

Knight’s Cross: At 20:15 on the 25.08.1942, east of Leonowo, the Soviets launched an assault on a German defensive line with two regiments plus tank support following a heavy artillery preparation. The defending German unit, the 3./Infanterie-Regiment 520, only had a strength of just 25 men and the Soviets had little difficulty in penetrating the line. From here they threatened to roll up the lines of the entire 296. Infanterie-Division, which had been stretched thin in recent fighting. Without waiting for reserves, the German regimental commander (Oberst Hüttner) assembled an ad-hoc Kampfgruppe with the available forces at hand and launched a counterattack into both flanks of the enemy penetration.

Obergefreiter Schuss, a machine-gunner, was charged with giving flank support for the group led by Hüttner himself. By constantly changing positions over the course of several hours he was able to provide effective fire and prevent the Soviets from encircling Hüttner’s group. This was in spite of his own position being enveloped by Soviet infantry as well as the presence of two tanks that blasted his position from close range. He nonetheless continued to play a major role in the counterattack, and eventually he joined the attack itself and brought in several prisoners. The old German line was eventually recaptured, and for his important role in the final outcome Schuss was awarded the Knight’s Cross.

GdR Membership Application of Wilhelm-August Vielwerth – Infanterie-Regiment 87 (RK)

Original (document from after war!) Gemeinschaft Deutscher Ritterkreuzträger (GdR) Membership application of “Erich” Wilhelm-August Vielwerth. Infanterie-Division. Also signed by him! With photo attached!

GdR Membership Application of Josef Dörfel – Infanterie-Regiment 439 (RK)

95,00

Original (document from after war!) Gemeinschaft Deutscher Ritterkreuzträger (GdR) Membership application of Josef Dörfel. Leutnant Josef Dörfel (02.03.1915 † 03.04.2002) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (Knight’s Cross) on March 4, 1942, while serving as Zugführer (Platoon Leader) of 6. Kompanie/ Infanterie-Regiment 439 of the 134. Infanterie-Division. Also signed by him! With photo attached!

Knight’s Cross awarded for: “Oberfeldwebel Dörfel showed exceptional energy as he and his encircled Zug fought their way through the enemy under the most difficult of circumstances. After he and his weary soldiers reached the delaying position only to encounter the enemy once again he once again initiated a breakthrough, leading at the head of his Zug and encouraging them to fight through the enemy once more. It is only thanks to the indomitable willpower and toughness of Oberfeldwebel Dörfel himself that this Zug was able to make contact with its Bataillon after an almost 48-hour operation while enduring temperatures of -23 degrees, constant snowstorms, a lack of supplies and no opportunities to warm up.”

GdR Membership Application of Paul Speich – Pionier-Bataillon 162 (RK)

85,00

Original (document from after war!) Gemeinschaft Deutscher Ritterkreuzträger (GdR) Membership application of Paul Speich. Oberfeldwebel Paul Speich (22.08.1914 † 01.07.2005) earned the Ritterkreuz on November 18, 1941 as Unteroffizier und Gruppenführer in the 1. Kompanie/ Pionier-Bataillon 162 of the 62. Infanterie-Division. Good Condition. Unsigned, With photo attached!

Knight’s Cross: Unteroffizier Speich distinguished himself during the great encirclement battle east of Kiev on the 20.09.1941, near Ivanyikovo. Fighting at the head of his squad with LMG in hand, he managed to ambush and capture a battery of 6 battle-ready Soviet guns via a surprise flank attack. If he hadn’t undertaken and completed this deed, then the battery would have been able to wreak havoc not just on his Kompanie but also all the other parts of his Division in the area, including the divisional staff. This successful action also simultaneously blocked the retreat route of most nearby Soviet forces that were fleeing towards the southeast. Consequently, he was recognized for his important achievement with the award of the Knight’s Cross.

GdR Membership Application of Adolf Eilers – Grenadier-Regiment 184 (RK)

95,00

Original (document from after war!) Gemeinschaft Deutscher Ritterkreuzträger (GdR) Membership application of Adolf Eilers. Oberstleutnant Adolf Eilers (13.10.1907 † 28.03.1981) earned the Ritterkreuz on September 10, 1944 as Major und Kommandeur of Grenadier-Regiment 184 of the 251. Infanterie-Division. Good Condition. Also signed by him! With photo attached!

Knight’s Cross: On the 25.07.1944 the ragtag Kampfgruppe Eilers received the unenviable task of securing the threatened crossroads near Krzewicaund, a place which offered the only major retreat route to the north in this area. During the morning hours of the next day Kampfgruppe Eilers succeeded in launching a determined counterthrust with an infantry Kompanie and 2 Paks that managed to throw the Soviets back to their assembly areas despite their bitter resistance. Heavy losses were inflicted in the process, including a Soviet tank.

After this Kampfgruppe Eilers (consisting of two weak Kompanien and elements of Eilers’ staff) was able to hold out against a regimental sized Soviet infantry force with tank support. Soviet attacks were launched from three sides during this time. Eventually, on the fifth day of battle (the 29.07.1944) the last gun of the subordinated Pak-Zug was knocked out. Kampfgruppe Eilers thus disengaged on the evening of the same day, having fulfilled its mission of covering the withdrawal of German units north of the road.

Major Eilers would be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this successful defensive stand.

Walter Elflein – Grenadier-Regiment 95 (Oakleaves)

30,00

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Walter Elflein. Major der Reserve Walter Elflein (10.12.1914 † 30.12.2000) earned the Ritterkreuz on October 8, 1943 as Oberleutnant und Führer of the 2. Kompanie/ Grenadier-Regiment 95 and the Eichenlaub on December 5, 1943 as Hauptmann und Kommandeur of the I. Bataillon/ Grenadier-Regiment 95 of the 17. Infanterie-Division. Good condition. Measuring: Postcardsize.

Knight’s Cross: At the end of August 1943 Oberleutnant Elflein played a huge role in ensuring that his Division could disengage from the Mius. With his Kampfgruppe he succeeded in pushing back and smashing a force of broken-in Soviets via a counterattack he launched on his own initiative. This achievement made such an impression on the Soviets that they did not seek to press their advantage, and as such the German withdrawal was able to proceed without interference.

Oakleaves: During the heavy fighting in the Nikopol bridgehead in November 1943 the Soviets succeeded in seizing a village of particular importance for the security of the bridgehead. In response Hauptmann Elflein launched a counterattack on his own initiative at the head of his 100 man strong Kampfgruppe, and this succeeded in ejecting the Soviets from the village. Over the next several days the Soviets made their own determined attempts to reconquer this village, attacking with infantry in up to regimental strength with the support of tanks. However they were consistently repelled by the efforts of Elflein and his men. Elflein would be awarded the Oakleaves for his actions here.

Karl Dönitz – Großadmiral, Commander of U-Boats & Hitler’s Successor

0,01

Original Scarce Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Großadmiral Karl Dönitz. Karl Dönitz (16 September 1891 – 24 December 1980) was a German admiral during the Nazi era who briefly succeeded Adolf Hitler as the German head of state in 1945. As Supreme Commander of the Navy since 1943, he played a major role in the naval history of World War II. He was convicted of war crimes at the Nuremberg trials in 1946. Good condition. Postcardsize.

He began his career in the Imperial German Navy before World War I. In 1918, he was commanding UB-68 when she was sunk by British forces. Dönitz was taken prisoner. While in a prisoner of war camp, he formulated what he later called Rudeltaktik (“pack tactic”, commonly called “wolfpack”).

At the start of World War II, he was the senior submarine officer in the Kriegsmarine, known as Befehlshaber der Unterseeboote (BdU). In January 1943, Dönitz achieved the rank of Großadmiral (grand admiral) and replaced Grand Admiral Erich Raeder as Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. Dönitz was the main enemy of Allied naval forces in the Battle of the Atlantic. From 1939–1943 the U-boats fought effectively but lost the initiative from May 1943. Dönitz ordered his submarines into battle until 1945 to relieve the pressure on other branches of the Wehrmacht (armed forces). 648 U-boats were lost—429 with no survivors. Furthermore, of these, 215 were lost on their first patrol. Around 30,000 of the 40,000 men to serve in U-boats perished.

On 30 April 1945, after the death of Adolf Hitler and in accordance with Hitler’s last will and testament, Dönitz was named Hitler’s successor as head of state, with the title of President of Germany and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. On 7 May 1945, he ordered Alfred Jodl, Chief of Operations Staff of the OKW, to sign the German instruments of surrender in Reims, France. Dönitz remained as head of the Flensburg Government, as it became known, until it was dissolved by the Allied powers on 23 May.

By his own admission, Dönitz was a dedicated Nazi and supporter of Hitler; he held anti-Semitic beliefs and insisted that Kriegsmarine officers adhere to his political views. Following the war, Dönitz was indicted as a major war criminal at the Nuremberg Trials on three counts: conspiracy to commit crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity; planning, initiating, and waging wars of aggression; and crimes against the laws of war. He was found not guilty of committing crimes against humanity, but guilty of committing crimes against peace and war crimes against the laws of war. He was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment; after his release, he lived in a village near Hamburg until his death in 1980. (Source: Wikipedia).
