On the rear inner rim of the hull, the kanji 少is stamped into the steel and painted white over it, indicating that it is a small size. Next to it, we can see the Kobe Seiko arsenal logo stamped in the steel (an S in a diamond) as well as a partially visible number.

The kanji indicating the size is also present on the leather band of the headdress. The leather helmet is in good condition. Outstanding DKiG Soldbuch & Wehrpass Grouping to Oberst Wentscher, 13. Panzer-Division

€1.495,00

An exceptional and historically significant Soldbuch and Wehrpass grouping to Oberst Gerhard Wentscher, an early recipient of the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, awarded on 1 December 1941 for his service as commander of (Panzer-)Artillerie-Regiment 13, 13. Panzer-Division.

Wentscher was a career officer with an extensive and well-documented military career spanning both World Wars. Promoted to Leutnant in 1915, he earned four awards during the First World War, including the Iron Cross 1st Class. He joined the Wehrmacht as a Hauptmann in 1934, became Kompaniechef in Artillerie-Regiment 13 in 1936, and following promotion to Major, served as Adjutant of the 13. Infanterie-Division from 1938.

In this role he participated in the Polish Campaign, earning the Spange zum EK II, and in the Western Campaign, where he was awarded the Spange zum EK I. After the conversion of the 13. Infanterie-Division into the 13. Panzer-Division, Wentscher served on the Eastern Front as Oberstleutnant and commander of Artillerie-Regiment 13. He was severely wounded in the leg on 13 October 1941, leading to his early award of the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 1 December 1941. Declared unfit for further front-line service, he completed the war as an Oberst in the Oberkommando des Heeres.

Over approximately 18 years of service, Wentscher was entitled to an impressive twelve awards, including:

  • Iron Cross II Class

  • Iron Cross I Class

  • Wound Badge in Black

  • Honour Cross for Front Fighters

  • Long Service Award IV Class

  • Spange zum EK II

  • Sudetenland Medal

  • Spange zum EK I

  • Officer’s Cross of the Romanian Crown

  • Wound Badge in Silver

  • General Assault Badge

  • Deutsches Kreuz in Gold

The Soldbuch is a standout centerpiece, featuring an extraordinary large portrait photograph—quite possibly one of the finest Soldbuch photos extant. Wentscher is depicted holding a telephone, an action entirely against regulations for Soldbuch photographs, and is wearing his Deutsches Kreuz in Gold along with other decorations. The Soldbuch was opened in August 1939 and signed by Generalleutnant Moritz von Faber du Faur, divisional commander. It is complete and in very good condition.

The Wehrpass, opened in January 1941, also contains a military portrait photo showing Wentscher wearing his WWI EK I. It is complete, clean, and in excellent condition, meticulously listing his awards, units, campaigns, and promotions.

Additionally included in this outstanding grouping:

  • Inländer-Jahresjagdschein (1940) with military portrait photograph

  • Driving license, issued in Gross-Born, 1938

  • A small private photograph

This is a unique, museum-quality grouping to a documented Panzer Oberst and early DKiG recipient. An unparalleled opportunity to acquire a true centerpiece for any advanced collection. The Soldbuch in particular offers exceptional visual and historical impact when displayed.

Karl Nicolussi-Leck – SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 “Wiking”

€55,00

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Karl Nicolussi-Leck. SS-Hauptsturmführer Karl Nicolussi-Leck earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on April 9, 1944 as SS-Obersturmführer und Chef of the 8. Kompanie/ SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 of the 5. SS-Panzer-Division “Wiking”. Large size: 18,7×18,2cm.

Karl Nicolussi-Leck was the commander of a Panther company in the 5. SS-Panzer-Division “Wiking” during its efforts to relieve the trapped garrison at Kovel in March 1944. On the 27th of that month, with the German relief efforts still in progress, Nicolussi-Leck received an order to halt all offensive actions. By this point he was in radio conduct with the garrison, and felt that its relief was of the utmost importance. He thus told his radio operator to send a reply stating that he (Nicolussi-Leck) could not be found, and with that continued the push to the town. Three days later, following difficult fighting, he was able to reach the trapped garrison with seven tanks on the early morning of the 30th. By doing so he was able to substantially reinforce the garrison’s defences, and he remained with them until Kovel was finally relieved for good. His recommendation also says that he destroyed 17 tanks in the process, although it is possible this number is for the whole company. Either way, Nicolussi-Leck’s actions were judged to be worthy of the Knight’s Cross, and he received this award shortly afterwards. (Source: Traces of War)

  • Oak Leaves to the Knight’s Cross (Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes, 857th award) – 6 May 1945, as SS-Standartenführer and Kommandeur of SS-Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 2, 2. SS-Panzer-Division “Das Reich”.

Awarded for further distinction during the fighting in the Ardennes, Hungary, and especially in Vienna. In Vienna, Kreutz’s artillery took up direct fire positions at a vital crossroads to halt Soviet breakthrough attempts. During the retreat, his regiment acted as the rearguard of the Division—a rare and exceptional role for an artillery unit—earning him recognition for his outstanding leadership.

Career Highlights:

  • Joined the Waffen-SS and advanced through the artillery branch, eventually taking command of SS-Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 2 “Das Reich.”

  • His regiment supported the division in numerous battles across the Eastern and Western Fronts.

  • Recognized with the Knight’s Cross in 1944 for his leadership in France during the Normandy and subsequent fighting.

  • Decorated with the Oak Leaves in the final days of the war for his extraordinary handling of the regiment in the Ardennes Offensive, in Hungary, and during the defense of Vienna.

  • Survived the war and lived in Germany until his death in 1997.

Item Details:

  • Authentic postwar signature of SS-Standartenführer Karl Kreutz.

  • Signed on a postwar photograph.

  • Condition: Clear and well-preserved autograph.

Collector’s Note:
Kreutz’s signature is highly desirable for collectors of Waffen-SS and 2. SS-Panzer-Division “Das Reich” history. His rare distinction of earning the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves as an artillery commander—especially for his regiment’s rearguard role in Vienna—makes this an exceptional addition to any advanced collection.

Albert Stenwedel – 13. Waffen-Gebirgs-Division der SS “Handschar”

€45,00

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Albert Stenwedel. SS-Sturmbannführer Albert Stenwedel (10.09.1908 † 29.07.1997) was an early volunteer for the SS (SS service number 28 762) and earned the Ritterkreuz on May 3, 1945 as SS-Sturmbannführer und Kommandeur of the II. Bataillon/ SS-Freiwilligen-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 27 “Handschar” of the 13. SS-Freiwilligen-Gebirgs-Division “Handschar”.

Knight’s Cross: “On the 01-02.04.1945 Sturmbannführer Stenwedel and his Bataillon distinguished themselves while holding a crossing over the Murr river. Despite a lack of support from heavy weapons they were able to defend their positions successfully against overwhelming enemy forces, and by doing so they secured the safe passage of the rest of the 13. SS-Freiwilligen-Waffen-Gebirgs-Division “Handschar” over the Murr river. Stenwedel was recommended for the Knight’s Cross as a result.”

Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
