Knight’s Cross: “Hauptsturmführer Siegel is the soul of the fighting spirit of his battalion. In the eventful offensive and defensive fighting around Caen, as company commander, he knocked out 11 of the 37 enemy tanks destroyed by his company. On 27 June 1944 (…) in a night attack, Siegel gained ground to the north and thwarted the advance of enemy armour to the south. Siegel held his positions without any infantry support and despite extremely heavy gunfire. While positioning and briefing his men, he was surprised in the dark of night by an enemy patrol. In the hand-to-hand fighting that resulted, he was stabbed in the right side. Nevertheless, he was able to repulse the enemy and hold his position. The next morning the enemy renewed their attack. Siegel fought with his tank to the last, making it possible to bring up new forces and thereby prevent a decisive British breakthrough. In so doing, Siegel’s tank was knocked out from under him for the fifth time and he suffered extremely severe burns.”

About von Fritsch:
Thomas Ludwig Werner Freiherr von Fritsch (4 August 1880 – 22 September 1939) was a German Generaloberst (full general) and Commander-in-Chief of the German Army from February 1934 to February 1938. His career came to a dramatic halt during the Blomberg–Fritsch Affair, when he was falsely accused of homosexuality and forced to resign—an event that played a key role in Adolf Hitler tightening control over the armed forces.
Shortly before the outbreak of WWII, von Fritsch was reinstated as Colonel-in-Chief of the 12th Artillery Regiment. He was killed in action in Poland on 22 September 1939, becoming only the second German general to die in the conflict.
This grouping represents not only a rare set of documents tied to an officer of the prestigious Reiter-Regiment 4, but also carries the historically important autograph of one of Germany’s most prominent pre-war military leaders.

Eduard Wanger became a conspirator against Hitler. When Claus von Stauffenberg sought approval for an assassination attempt on 15 July 1944, Wagner was cited as being definite that the assassination of Hitler should be attempted only if Heinrich Himmler was also present. On 20 July, Wagner arranged the airplane that flew Stauffenberg from Rastenburg back to Berlin after the bomb that was believed to have killed Hitler had exploded. After the failure of the coup attempt, Wagner feared that his arrest by the Gestapo was imminent and that he might be forced to implicate other plotters. He committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at noon on 23 July 1944. (Source: Wikipedia)
