Stunning fieldmade and handsigned 'Soldatenglück' document (DIN A4, can be opened) with “Dem Scheidenden techn. Inspektor (K) Voigtl wünschen bestes Soldatenglück” (The departing techn. Inspector (K) Voigtl, wishes the best 'Soldier's luck'), “Offiziere des Stabes der 196. Infanterie-Division” (Officers of the Divisional Staff of the 196. Infanterie-Division). This document was handsigned by all of the Divisional Staff officers of the Division! The 196. Infanterie-Division was engaged in the fightings and occupation of Drontheim (Trondheim), Norway. A stunning and researchable document from a Division serving years on the Norwegian front! One of the signatures is from the Divisional Commander Generalleutnant Kurt Möhring (Knight’s Cross and was Killed in Action during the Battle of the Bulge as Commander of the 276. Volks-Grenadier-Division). On December 18, 1944 Major-General Kurt Moehring, was on his way back to his command post when he got killed in his staff car near the village of Beaufort by machinegun fire. Interestingly, his command car was an American jeep and his death is disputed due the American took credit for his death but according to local historians there were no US troops within that area 48 hours after the offensive.
A few identified signatures are that of: Generalleutnant Kurt Moehring (Commander) and Oberstleutnant Klimke (Ia).

Steuermannsmaat Karl-Heinz Fischer (23.07.1913 † 12.08.1993) earned the Ritterkreuz on May 3, 1943 as Steurmannsmaat und Steuermann on Vorpostenboot “VP-711” of the 7. Vorpostenflottille. “Fischer received the Iron Cross Second Class at the start of 1942 while serving with the Hafenschutzflottille ‘Brest’. From May 1942 he has served with the 7. Vorpostenflottille. Participated in all operations with this unit. Awarded the Iron Cross First Class on the 29.04.1943. Was involved in heavy combat on the 28.03.1943 along the north Brittany coast between the convoy ‘Butterfly’ and an English formation of destroyers and gunboats. This battle was mentioned in the Wehrmachtbericht of the 29.04.1943. ‘V 722’ was shot up by two large destroyers. The ship was totally riddled by 700 strikes. Its captain and 16 men of the crew were killed/wounded. The entire first crew was wounded except for 4 men. Fischer himself was badly wounded by shell splinters in his back. In this situation, as ‘V 722’ threatened to fall into the hands of the destroyers (by now 200 metres away) or be destroyed by them at close range, Fischer dragged himself to the bridge despite his injury. In the place of the fallen captain he led the ship out of its deadly predicament, and maintained command for 9 hours until the ship was at a secure location. He inspired the hard-pressed crew to give their utmost along with him. Under his leadership ‘V 722’ not only fended off further destroyer attacks, but also successfully defended against an attack by 20 bombers and other aircraft. The fact that ‘V 722’ was neither captured or destroyed by the numerically superior enemy is a testament to Fischer’s devotion to duty, which led him to take the helm when the situation appeared desperate.” Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. Otto Schroeder-Zollinger was a career officer who served in both the Kaiserliche Marine during the First World War and later rose to the rank of Generalmajor in the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. His career reflects the development of German naval and air power across two world wars.

Career Highlights:

  • Entered the Imperial Navy in 1917 as a cadet, serving on the battleship SMS Oldenburg during the final year of the First World War.

  • After 1919, served with the Marine-Brigaden during the turbulent postwar years.

  • In the Reichsmarine, he specialized in navigation, artillery, torpedoes, and signals, serving as adjutant and later staff officer in various coastal and training commands.

  • Held officer posts aboard torpedo boats and the cruiser Königsberg, rising to Kapitänleutnant in 1932.

  • Transferred to the Luftwaffe in 1933 as a naval aviation specialist. Commanded the Seebeobachterschule Warnemünde and later the Waffenschule Bug on Rügen.

  • Promoted through the ranks to Oberst by 1940, while holding senior staff positions connected to naval aviation and Luftwaffe-mining operations.

  • Commanded the Fliegerwaffenschule (See) Parow and later the Große Kampffliegerschule 5, training Luftwaffe aircrews for combat.

  • In 1944–45, served in multiple Luftwaffe staff and special assignment commands, including Luftgaukommando Belgien-Nordfrankreich, Luftgaukommando XIV, and the Sonderstab Olbrich-Ungarn.

  • Promoted to Generalmajor on 1 March 1945.

  • Captured in May 1945 at Flensburg and held until his release in 1948.

  • Lived in Schleswig-Holstein until his death in 1980.
