Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Anton Holzinger. Oberst Anton Holzinger (30.12.1901 in Pola, Istria † 06.04.1989 in Graz) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on January 11, 1941 as Major und Kommandeur of the I. Bataillon/ Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 138 of the 3. Gebirgs-Division.
“Hauptmann Holziger was the commander of the ‘Wild Duck’ action (in the time period 08.-15.05.1940), which led to the capture of the Hemnes Peninsula (near Mo) and with it the clearing of the march route for Gruppe ‘Feurstein’ (which was advancing from the south). Holzinger fulfilled his task with unparalleled personal devotion and leadership, tying down 1000 men during 5 days of battle. By his actions he enabled the Gruppe ‘Feurstein’ to reach the Finneid isthmus without a fight on the 15.05.1940. Lots of prisoners as well as equipment of all kinds were captured.”
Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
