Tragic and scarce Soldbuch of SS-Unterscharführer Schlagowski who started his service in August 1939. Throughout the war, until he was Killed in Action, he served with the SS-Polizei-Schützen-Regiment 1 & 7, SS-Wachabteilung Berlin (see stamps) and the SS-Panzergrenadier-Ausbildungs und Ersatz-Bataillon 4 (in 1944-1945 as SS-Kampfgruppe Delfs). SS-Unterscharführer was Killed in Action in April 12, 1945 in Weidenau. This is also written in his Soldbuch on the hospital pages (“Lungendurchschuss rechts“, shot through the right lung). On page 15, there’s also written (wound entry not noted in the hospital pages) that he was wounded on January 29, 1945 near Briesen by Granatsplitter on the left side of his head, but remained with the troops.
On page 14, you can see that he served also with the SS-Wachabteilung Berlin. Also he was equipped with the PPK pistol and a machinepistol! During his service, he earned the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber. Also interesting is after his sickness, he was discharged out of the hospital to the Polizei-Schützen-Regiment 1 in Ede/Netherlands in August 1941.
The Soldbuch also features a stunning photograph. The Soldbuch is filled with tons of entries! Great research project!
