Luftwaffe Flugzeugführerschein – Ju 88 & He 111 Training – MIA 26 Dec 1944 over Liege (BE) – Lehrgeschwader 1

Original WWII Luftwaffen-Flugzeugführerschein, document no. 111/43, issued to Walter Schmidt, born 19 July 1924 in Bernburg.

Issued on 2 June 1943 by Luftkriegsschule 3, Werder/Havel, during the Fahnenjunkerlehrgang. The licence retains its original portrait photograph, numerous Luftwaffe stamps, signatures and detailed training entries.

Of particular interest are the aircraft qualifications and training entries, including He 72, Bü 131, Bü 181, Kl 35, Go 145, W 33, W 34 and C 445, followed by further training at Flugzeugführerschule (C) 21 in Białystok. Importantly, Schmidt was also listed for the Ju 88 and He 111, both aircraft types associated with the multi-engine/bomber training conducted at FFS C 21. On December 26, 1944, Schmidt took off from Varel and was lost south of Lüttich to anti aircraft. Ju-88S-3 L1+GH. Schmidt is listed as MIA but rest of the crew was taken prisoner.

The document further contains entries for Blindflugschein II, later training at Flugzeugführerschule B 37, promotions during 1943, and numerous original wartime stamps and signatures.

A particularly attractive and extensively completed Luftwaffe pilot’s licence, with excellent documentation of the holder’s progression from basic flying training toward multi-engine aircraft.
